April Flowers
I know technically, it's "April showers bring May flowers". But I spent snowy March making flowers, and now it's April, so here we are.
In the spirit of The Wizard of Oz, I'm going to pull the curtain back for a minute, and let you in on something real.
I've been in the jewelry doldrums. It started when I got back from Tucson. It was a frustrating and uncomfortable place to be- you would think I would come home inspired and raring to put the stones I picked up into new designs. And I was for about a week. But then I kind of froze I couldn't motivate. I just felt "blah" every time I sat at the bench. I felt like I needed to make masterpieces and inspiration wasn't striking.
So, I concentrated on my meditation practice. I spoke to mentors. I got together for coffee with friends. I forgave myself for not posting to Instagram every day. I worked on renovating my niece's dollhouse. In short, I took a break, (though I felt guilty about it the whole time, which made it feel less "break" than "broke")
But then I went back to my WHY- my raison d'etre, the reason I create.
I truly believe jewelry is powerful, and more than just simple adornment. The right piece of jewelry can help motivate, lift you from the doldrums, remind you of how brave you are, remind someone of how loved they are, keep a memory close to your heart. And the jewelry I most like to make are pieces that uplift the sprit and carry those messages and reminders.
So, I went back to flowers with quotes. These brought me such comfort when I made them at the start of the pandemic, and I know they brought such comfort to you as well, both reading the quotes, and for the lucky few of you who managed to get a blooming flower of your own.
I've been quietly adding new work to the site this past week, with little fanfare, because guess what? I'm excited about creating again and I've just wanted to be at my bench rather than creating a lot of hoopla around new work. But today is all about hoopla and fanfare and reminders that no feeling is final. The good, the bad, the doldrums and the delights. They all come and go.
Mini descriptions are below, and there are a few more goodies (and some sale-ies!) on the website, so click HERE or below to see what's new.
And thank you for being here. I know you understand.
