Living in the moment has always been kind of hard to me.
I tend to dwell in the past- Partly due to nostalgia and sentimentality, remembering a “better time” (one that in the present moment of the past was likely unrealized)
But I also waste a lot of time regretting, rehashing, and uselessly what-iffing
When it comes to the future, I’m either worrying about a completely unknowable fate, or eagerly anticipating something, like a kid waiting for Christmas (or, let’s be honest, me waiting for Christmas)
But being in the present- especially the often boring, mundane, masked moment- is a challenge.
It’s hard to appreciate the same shit on a different day.
Until experiencing a pandemic.
Now, I am so conscious of moments. I am reminding myself to be present for each one.
To be here.
To feel this.
To breathe in, breathe out.
Shit, we’re lucky for every moment we get to do that.
I feel appreciation for my body and it’s systems, that quietly keep me here.
Gratitude for the oxygen that fills my lungs, even when I’m not fully conscious.
And so, I’ve made more lung lockets, etched with some serious wisdom from the one and only Oprah Winfrey “Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.”
